The Servant

Tonight I was humbled to spend dinner being served by some of the students at the One-2-One house. (One-2-One is the organisation I am working with). These students are mostly people that have been raised through the orphanage system and then placed in the One-2-One home so that they can complete university study in everything from Law to Medicine to Psychology. Tonight one of the Orphanage mothers was eating dinner with us, one of the other kiwis said to her 'how does it feel to have these children serving you dinner when you have known them right from when they were small children' Her answer was something along the lines of 'when they were children I served them every meal, when they needed more rice I would serve it to them myself if they put their hand up. They would say to me why do you serve us, and I would say because I want you to know what it means to be served. Eventually as they grew they had a real heart and desire to serve. When I could see this desire in their heart I would let them serve me and now I have seen them grow up to have the servant heart' How powerful is that team?!!!!

Here is a pic of some of them, the one in the white shirt on the left of the Bannister at the back is one of my main research assistants (Vutha).

Pimp My Ride

I've been in Cambodia with my sweet-sweet set of wheels for just under a week now. Cambodia by bicycle is a different experience to Cambodia by Tuk-tuk!! The bike (Frank Jr) suffered just a little bit of damage on the plane ride, perhaps the smallest component on the entire set up was broken: the tension screw on my left front brake bracket. Hence I spent the first day trying to figure out why my brakes seemed to be locked on all the time, the second day with no front brakes, the third day I managed to find a make shift bike shop who placed a second hand Vietnamese brake bracket (adjusted by bending the bracket itself) and today I've finally found a decent bike shop. Which leads me to my next point: Every bike tells a story!
I originally got the bike as a result of crashing the mountain bike my little sister had given me on the Queen Charlotte Track. Insurance paid for the bike frame and I am riding the same gear set, cranks, wheel hubs, and front de-railer from the original bike!
The rear Derailer was swapped out in Dunedin and now...
Now Frank Jr has a Cambodian front brake set and bike stand! My ride is truly 'Pimped'.
